Lois Hornbostel and Ehukai Teves (‘The Ghost Peppers’) are lively Western North
Carolina musicians who perform regularly as the house band at Darnell Farms. They play
lots of folk music styles, old-time fiddle tunes, and original songs. They are married and
live in Bryson City.
Beginning in the 1980s Lois became known for developing innovative playing techniques
and new styles of music for the mountain dulcimer. She authored 6 dulcimer books of
Celtic, Old-Time, Cajun, International Folk music, and ensembles, that are published by
Mel Bay Music. Lois has performed at music events across the US and her dulcimer
playing skills have won seventeen 1st-place competitions at Southern fiddle conventions.
From 1989 thru 2013 she founded and directed dulcimer weeks at local universities and
her own “Dulcimerville” week.
Ehukai was born into a family of well-loved Hawaiian musicians, and from his childhood
has performed on many instruments. He earned a B.A degree in Vocal Performance &
Music Theory from the University of Hawaii at Hilo. He is a poetic and prolific writer of
songs, including award-winners. After years as a band-leading guitarist-singer, Ehukai
met the mountain dulcimer. He was surprised how its simplicity made it versatile enough
to fit into any musical content, and it has become his favorite instrument.
Come hear Ehukai and Lois “duet” their lively music!
The Folk School features some of the finest regional and national acts performing eclectic roots music. We’ll have standard seating available, first come first serve. A donation of $5-15 per adult is suggested, but all are welcome regardless of contribution. Folk School Students and Staff are not asked to donate. Any funds raised support traditional arts and help us strive for equitable pay for performers. *Lineup and schedule are subject to change, for the most up to date details check the schedule at www.folkschool.org/calendar
