CENTENNIAL SOUNDS
Amplifying diverse Appalachian voices
Music and dance have been a vital part of the Folk School since its founding in 1925. As we celebrate our 100th year, Centennial Sounds honors this legacy by spotlighting the cultural richness of Appalachian music and the many voices that shape it. This special performance series will feature five headliners whose work expands and redefines the story of Appalachian music. Through these concerts, we aim to create new opportunities for our community in Western North Carolina to experience the full spectrum of Appalachian sound.
Admission is $25 for adults and $5 for youth. *

Rebecca Porter & the Rhinestone Roses
Rebecca Porter & the Rhinestone Roses:
https://www.rebeccaportermusic.com/ are a Shenandoah Valley-based group led by Rebecca Porter, whose candid, honey-voiced country songs draw on her experience as a Pacific Islander woman in rural Virginia. A member of Rissi Palmer’s Color Me Country Class of 2024, Porter has earned national attention through NPR’s Mountain Stage and two independently released EPs, performing alongside the Rhinestone Roses with a big sound and heartfelt storytelling.
The Wilder Flower
The Wilder Flower :
https://thewilderflowermusic.com/is a western Carolinas trio made up of a guitar, banjo and fiddle, whose original songs and rich three-part harmonies have made them one of the region’s most exciting young acts in bluegrass and old-time. Festival veterans of MerleFest and FreshGrass, the group embodies the living tradition of Appalachian music from a fresh and vital perspective.
